We understand that you want the best for your child and we have the same goal. We take pride in our mission to provide patient-centered medical treatment to those with scoliosis through innovative bracing and collaborative care. At Scoli 3D, we use a collaborative approach with our Orthopedists, Schroth therapists and Orthotic team. We work in-house with several experienced Schroth therapists and provide complimentary sessions with them to ensure the best possible outcome. This comprehensive treatment will help your child to better stabilize their body and elongate their spine both inside and outside the brace helping them to create a more symmetrical posture and balanced alignment.

History of Cheneau

History of Cheneau Bracing Design

In France, Dr. Jacques Cheneau developed his first TLSO scoliosis brace and named it Cheneau in the 1970s. The Cheneau bracing concept uses pressure zones and expansion areas to de-rotate and elongate the spine in three dimensions. Goals for brace wearers are stabilization, at minimum, but the ultimate goal is some degree of spinal improvement.

Cheneau bracing is asymmetric and is different from most other TLSO scoliosis braces because it allows for Schroth corrective breathing while the patient wears it. The corrective breathing pattern is strategically created by applying pressure to the convex areas and voids at the concavities for breathing and expansion. A well-designed Cheneau brace should focus on three-dimensional correction of the spine in the coronal (frontal), transverse (rotational) and sagittal (side) planes.

Since its initial development, Cheneau bracing has been intertwined with the Schroth concept for scoliosis. Dr. Cheneau spent time with Katharina Schroth and Christa Lehnert-Schroth at the renowned Schroth clinic in Germany. After learning the Schroth concepts and immediately embracing this method of treatment, he figured out a way to incorporate it into his brace designs using the augmented Lehnert-Schroth curve-pattern classifications, which for decades have been the basis of successful Schroth scoliosis treatment.

Cheneau was the first brace developer to recognize that idiopathic scoliosis of the thoracic spine often involves flatback (thoracic lordosis) and should be treated with this understanding. This is one aspect of bracing where some scoliosis braces fall short and cause poor patient outcomes.

Today, there are many Cheneau-type braces. Informed consumers should understand that Cheneau bracing is both an art as well as a science. Brace design and fit matter significantly and there can be substantial differences among Cheneau-style braces. Spinal balance, alignment and cobb angle improvement are important factors when considering expectations for a successful outcome, but without compliance, these positive outcomes are not possible.

My daughter and I have been really happy with the team at Scoliosis Technologies! They take the time to answer all our questions and made the process very easy for us!

We feel blessed that our doctor recommended Scoliosis Technologies! My son's first brace was made by another provider and he could hardly tolerate wearing it. The brace Scoliosis Technologies made he wears 19 hours a day with no problem!

Finally a company that cares about their patients! We knew we chose the right place from the second we walked through the door!
